We all look for ways to do easier grocery shopping. Lets face it , it can be a pain, a chore or sometimes it can be a relaxing getaway from home. Me, I like to take my time, go aisle to aisle, compare prices , brands, see whats new, etc. Yet frankly sometimes I don’t feel like doing all of that, and I don’t even feel like going to the store.
That’s where convenient grocery store services come in. I have used grocery delivery specifically Peapod, I use to use them all the time, I loved the delivery, but didn’t care that my produce wasn’t the best looking, or the meat quantity, not to mention I am not a big fan of shopping at Giant anyway.
I never used the Safeway delivery service as quite frankly I find Safeway to be pricey. So I wouldn’t use the service.
Then comes my beloved Harris Teeter, Now sadly they don’t offer delivery service ( actually only to a limited area – not to mine) but they do offer a pick up service. So here is some insight below- hope it helps!
Shopping: You can shop from the app or website – I actually prefer the app compared to the store, Its cleaner and easy to navigate compared to the website. it also has your past purchases and you can easily reorder. I find it easy to shop for items you already know you like and have bought before, plus the app lets you know items you have bought frequently and you can also look at specials and coupons.
Prices: I found the item prices to be the same and on some items cheaper ( special deals online). There is a fee for this service, its $4.95 service free for order or pay $16.95 month or $99.95 for a year – this may be a good option if you will use this service often. The first $4.95 fee is waived on your first order.
Grocery Items : I prefer to buy our meat from the meat counter, the chicken breasts are cheaper and so is the ground beef. I was happy to know I could buy the same through the app. They clerks actually go around shopping the store for the items not from the where house like some do. I know, because I’ve personally seen them myself. The produce items are fresh just in store. No complaints here.
Pick Up Times: In the top of the app it shows you the pick up times. The pick up times seem to go by every half hour, but you be mindful of same day pick up times. I tried to order same day pick up for around 3pm yet when I logged on after 12 noon that day , the next pick time was 4:30 – 5pm, that didn’t work , So I suggest for more control of your pick up time, order early in the day or day before.
Customer Service: Customer service at Harris Teeter is always great for me . One of the main reasons why I shop there. They are always helpful .
Picking up groceries: You drive up to a yellow and green box and press the call button, someone picks up , you tell them your name and they gather your order, come out and let your know if they found all the items, any substitutes ( if you allowed any). They even load your car!
All in All : I was very pleased with my service, so much so, I may continue to use it more often. It was so easy and convenient and I got the quality product that I would get myself. It also makes it easy that I can just swing by the store close to my job on they way home and not spend so much time in the store.
So tell me your thoughts? What grocery service do you prefer?
